A Natural Course
Almost 50 years ago Darrel A Farr purchased a plot of land near Shingle Creek, Minneapolis and he made an innovative decision. It occurred to him that the fertilizer used on the lawn abutting the creek may be running off the soil and polluting the creek. He determined the best way to prevent the run off was to let a 15 foot strip of lawn near the creek grow wild. Today that common land management practice is called a filter strip. Back then it was just common sense.

The history of Darrel A Farr Development Corporation revolves around a love of the land and an enjoyment of the country. Since the official incorporation date of 1965, Farr Corporation has created unique home sites in varied environments for over 10,000 families. Lessons learned in one development - Thicket Hill in Minnesota for instance - get carried and improved on in another, such as in the widely different climate of New Mexico. In any development, Farr never fails to be flexible and an excellent steward. And the same spirit of innovation that started the company still exists as Farr Development remains on the forefront of land preservation techniques.

Good News Travels
Over the years this unfailing dedication to mission has won recognition by cities and many (Builder Association) Reggie awards. However, it's stories like the Copperfield Hill Senior Center that are noteworthy. A landmark five-story wood frame structure built by Farr Corporation, Copperfield Hill drew international interest at its grand opening. A delegation from Vietnam, among others, specifically toured this building to learn about large-scale wood construction.

Some say that Farr Corporation has been doing the same thing for 43 years. They're right. But if you consider the great care spent in the selection, planning, and consideration of every development opportunity, suddenly such a generalization doesn't do the company justice. And while there are a few similarities to the plot of land on Shingle Creek, and the large-scale multi-neighborhood plan of Byron Towne Square, the differences show the strong growth of the Darrel A Farr Corporation.
